A: These two generations of Honda VFR800 (RC46 Gen1 and RC46 Gen2) fairings cannot be interchanged at all. The whole body shell, mounting hole positions, headlight cutout, tail frame and tank surrounding structure are completely redesigned. Even if you try to modify the brackets, it will not fit properly.
✅ Honda VFR800 1998–2001 (RC46 First Generation)
- Production Process: Only hand-modeling fairing available. There is no injection molded ABS mold for this generation, so injection version is not manufactured.
- Headlight & Nose Cowl: One-piece integrated headlight assembly (single outer lens with dual lamp internals). Front nose fairing is narrow and compact, custom cutout for this integrated headlight unit.
- Side & Lower Fairing: Slim and narrow side panels, smooth curved lines. The lower side fairing wraps gently around the engine.
- Tail Assembly: Thin and simple tail fairing, factory design for dual seat. No rear seat cowl hump included in the full fairing kit.
- Tank Cover: Only small separate tank shrouds on both sides. There is no one-piece full integrated tank cover to wrap the whole fuel tank.
- Mounting: Original mounting lugs and hole positions are unique for 1998-2001 frame.
✅ Honda VFR800 2002–2013 (RC46 Second Generation, Facelift VTEC Model)
- Production Process: Injection molded ABS fairing kit. Hard ABS plastic, higher precision, better surface finish and tighter panel gaps .
- Headlight & Nose Cowl: Stacked dual angular headlights, two separate vertical lamp housings. The front nose fairing is wider, with sharp angular contours, cutouts shaped for vertical stacked lamps.
- Side & Lower Fairing: Fully redesigned larger side and lower fairings, sharper aggressive lines. The lower belly pan covers more of the engine area.
- Tail Assembly: Bulkier, wider rear tail section with reshaped tail light housing. The full fairing package includes rear seat cowl hump.
- Tank Cover: Comes with a full integrated one-piece tank cover that wraps over the top and sides of fuel tank, together with side tank shrouds.
- Mounting: Brand new set of mounting tabs and hole locations, matched to 2002-2013 motorcycle frame only.
Q: What manufacturing mold options are available for each VFR800 fairing?
A: 1. Honda VFR800 1998-2001: Hand-modeling only. Injection mold tooling for this model does not exist, we cannot supply ABS injection fairings for this year range.
2. Honda VFR800 2002-2013: Injection molded ABS only. Factory injection mold, consistent dimensions, easy to paint and install.
Q: Can I fit VFR800 1998-2001 fairing bodywork onto a 2002-2013 VFR800 motorcycle?
A: Absolutely not.
The frame, subframe, headlight assembly, fuel tank shape, tail light and all fairing mounting points are totally different between these two generations. The body contour does not align, holes will not line up. No amount of simple bracket modification can achieve a good fitment. Please order the fairing kit strictly matching your bike’s production year.
Q: Does the full fairing kit for VFR800 2002-2013 include the rear hump and tank cover? Are these parts included for 1998-2001?
A: For VFR800 2002–2013: Yes, the complete fairing set comes with rear seat cowl hump + full integrated tank cover, these two pieces are included inside the full kit.
For VFR800 1998–2001: The full fairing kit does NOT include rear hump and full tank cover. The original bike design of this generation does not support the big integrated tank cover and rear hump from 2002+ model.
