Frequently Asked Questions
What year groups are BMW S1000RR fairings divided into, and what are the differences?
BMW S1000RR fairings are split by generation and mold version. They are not cross-compatible between different groups. Details as below:
- 2009–2011 (K46 Gen1): Original iconic asymmetric "big-small" headlight. Unique front fairing, upper cowl and mounting holes. Cannot fit 2012+ models.
- 2012–2014 (K46 Gen2): Still asymmetric (asymmetric headlight), front nose and side panels revised. Different mounting points vs 2009–2011, two separate molds.
- 2015–2018 (K46 Gen3): Still asymmetric headlight, but the large/small lamp position is reversed compared with 09–14. Many buyers mistake it for symmetric lights. This set shares most body panels between 2015–2018; minor tail bracket differences exist between 15-16 and 17-18.
- 2019–2022 (K67 Gen1): New generation, fully symmetrical dual headlights, no size difference. Entire body mold redesigned. Not compatible with all K46 (2009–2018) fairings, no factory winglets.
- 2023–2024 (K67 Gen2): Factory integrated winglets added on front side. Front fairing and aerodynamic parts updated. Tail section and mounting points differ from 2025.
- 2025 (K67 Gen3): Further revised tail assembly, tail side panels and rear mounting brackets. Looks similar to 2023–2024 from front view, but tail parts cannot bolt on directly without bracket modification.
Does 2015–2018 S1000RR have symmetric headlights?
No. 2015–2018 K46 still uses asymmetric headlights, only the left-right big/small layout is flipped. Fully symmetric headlights started from 2019 K67.
Can 2023–2024 fairings fit the 2025 S1000RR directly?
No. The 2025 model has redesigned tail panels and rear fixing positions. Direct bolt-on fit is not possible. Modification to brackets will be required if you try to install cross-year parts.
Will any of these S1000RR fairings fit the S1000R?
None of these S1000RR full fairing kits fit S1000R. S1000R is a naked streetfighter; frame, front end and body mounting structure are completely different.
Are fairings within the same year range fully interchangeable?
Generally yes for direct bolt-on. Small exceptions: 2017–2018 have tiny tail bracket changes vs 2015–2016, most main panels are shared.
